The NSW Waratahs Women are just one game away from securing their place in the 2025 Super Rugby Women’s Grand Final, as they prepare to face the Western Force in a high-stakes semi-final clash at Leichhardt Oval on Sunday.

This match marks the second of the two semi-finals, with the winners advancing to the Grand Final at North Sydney Oval the following week.

The NSW Waratahs Women are on a mission to not only defend their 2024 championship title but also claim their sixth title victory in the competition’s history.

Their journey to the semi-final was cemented last Friday with an impressive 36-23 triumph over the ACT Brumbies in Canberra.

The Western Force, meanwhile, secured their place in the knock-out stage despite a heavy 47-10 defeat to the Queensland Reds at Ballymore on Sunday.

With the Queensland Reds finishing second behind the Waratahs on the ladder after five rounds, they will host their own semi-final against Fijian Drua on Sunday.

NSW Waratahs Women’s Head Coach Mike Ruthven emphasised that while the stakes are high, the team’s preparation remains consistent and performance-focused.

“Our preparation and focus won’t change too much,” Ruthven said.

“We’ve been very performance-focused throughout the season, and we’ll continue to have that as our focus this week.

“We’re striving for a really strong performance on the weekend.”

Acknowledging the cutthroat nature of the finals, Ruthven reinforced the importance of selecting the best squad for the job.

“It’s knockout stages now, so we need to make sure we put our best 23 out there – the team we believe will get the result on the weekend,” Ruthven said.

With a place in the Grand Final on the line, NSW Waratahs Women fans are expected to turn out in force to support their team in this decisive encounter.

The squad will be looking to build on their dominant form throughout the season and deliver another standout performance in front of their home supporters.
