Andrew Kellaway first played rugby for Hunters Hill Rugby Club in New Souths Wales. At his school the Scots College, he spent three years in the first XV (2011-13), before twice being selected for Australian Schools (2012-13) and Australian U20s (2014 and 2015 as captain). In the 2014 IRB Junior World Championships, he scored a record ten tries in five matches to break the previous mark held by future superstar wingers Julian Savea and Zac Guildford.
The Sydney-born outside back first made his Waratahs debut in 2016 against the Brumbies. Later that year, he was chosen as a development player on the Wallabies Spring Tour, such was his impact on that year.
Serious injuries then sidelined Kellaway for almost two years (2017 – throat, 2018 – foot) before he decided to make the move to the UK to play for Northampton Saints. He cites this one season in the East Midlands as pivotal in his development as a rugby player. He then briefly played for Counties Manakau in New Zealand’s NPC, alongside none other than Sonny Bill Williams, followed by the NEC Green Rockets in Japan, before joining Melbourne Rebels for the 2021 Trans-Tasman leg of Super Rugby.
That year made his first Australian squad in five years, scoring the second most tries (nine) in a Wallabies’ debut season and was named Rugby Australia’s Rookie of the Year.
After 50 appearances in four seasons at the Rebels, Kellaway re-joined his hometown team the Waratahs ahead of 2025. After a consistent Super Rugby season, he then played for the Wallabies in nine Test matches across their campaign that year, including a substitute appearance against the British & Irish Lions in the third Test in Sydney.
Outside of rugby, Kellaway has two children with his wife Claudia, while he has also learnt to play the bagpipes away from the field.
