The NSW Waratahs will take on the NSW Pacifica on January 25, for their first of two pre-season trial matches. It is tipped to be a high-octane celebration of “running rugby.”

The game at the Eric Tweedale Stadium at Granville in Sydney, will feature in a blockbuster Triple Header against NSW Pacifica sides at the same venue that day.

The triple header will start with the NSW Waratahs Under 20s playing the NSW Pacifica Under 20s. After game two between the NSW Waratahs and NSW Pacifica, the curtain will fall on the day with the NSW Waratahs Women playing NSW Pacifica Women.

The NSW Waratahs then play a second trial against the ACT Brumbies at Bowral Rugby Club on 1 February before the 2025 Super Rugby Pacific season starts on 14 February.

The Bowral clash is sure to be a blockbuster, with both sides having welcomed back their Wallabies and looking to hone their preparations for this major pre-season hit out.

The NSW Waratahs Women, meanwhile, will play the ACT Brumbies Women at Campbelltown Harlequin Rugby Club on 15 February with a scheduled 3pm kick-off.

NSW Pacifica representative Jason Lemusu says the Pacifica Island Triple Header will showcase the entertaining value of Pacific Island rugby, as well as Pacific Island culture.

“We are really excited,” Lemusu said. “We have not only got the Men here, but we've got the Women and Under 20s. We are pumped for it. Hopefully, we can deliver

“First and foremost, we want to win the game. You're going to expect Pacific Island players, a bit of flair … obviously running rugby.

“But we do have the finesse to play a structured game as well, coming on the back of some real quality coaches.

“They all have first grade experience in the Shute Shield and Jack Scott programs. It'll be a bit of a mix, but you can bet your bottom dollar it will be eighty per cent running rugby.

“In January [due to the summer heat], it looks like we're going to be having drink breaks; but it will still be exciting. Wherever the ball goes, it's going to be exciting rugby.”

Lemusu said the day will also champion Australian rugby’s ties to Pacific Island culture.

“We want the wider rugby community to see what we're all about. This is a platform we can showcase our culture from,” Lemusu said.

Lemusu said the day will also be an opportunity for those in the NSW Pacifica teams to highlight their rugby talents and National and State representative potential.

“They want to own their Wallaby jersey, their Waratah jersey too,” Lemusu said.
