The NSW Waratahs Women suffered a convincing 36-5 defeat to the Blues in the inaugural Women's Super Rugby Champions Final in Auckland on Thursday.

In torrid conditions at North Harbour Stadium, the Blues were too slick for the NSW Waratahs from the opening whistle as elusive 18-year-old fullback Braxton Sorensen-McGee bagged a first half double.

That gave the home side a 19-0 lead at the break and the back-to-back Super Rugby Aupiki champions went on with the job in the second half.

NSW Waratahs winger Desiree Miller gave the Australians something to celebrate when she touched down for a consolation try in the 74th minute.

But it was the Blues' night in Auckland as playmaker Krysten Cottrell capped off the historic win with a turnover and try in the final two minutes of the game.

"What an honour and what a huge opportunity for Australian rugby and for New Zealand rugby," NSW Waratahs captain Emily Chancellor said after the game.

"Well done to the Blues. They played exceptionally.

"As you might be able to tell from the way we played, we haven't had a lot of practise in those conditions in Australia this season, so it was a really difficult game but it was really fun."

Meanwhile, Blues captain Maiakawanakaulani Roos was thrilled with the win, which came on the back of her team winning the Super Rugby Aupiki crown for the second straight season.

"We are so happy to be here and take the W," Roos said.

"We've worked hard all season and to have the opportunity to play against our Tasman sisters was really cool.

"It's a really big step towards growing the game."

With the Super Rugby Women's season now complete, and the 2025 Women's Rugby World Cup on the horizon, Wallaroos head coach Jo Yapp will next week name her first squad of the year.

The Wallaroos will then assemble for a camp in Canberra ahead of next month's Test against Fiji in Suva and the Pacific Four Series on home soil.
